대한항공 인사이더 스토리 시리즈의 라운지 편 첫 에피소드로, 공항 라운지를 단순한 대기 공간이 아닌 프리미엄 환대의 경험 공간으로 재정의하는 과정을 담았다. 인천·홍콩·싱가포르에서 촬영했다.

대한항공 인천공항 라운지는 어떻게 바뀌었나?

영상에 따르면 많은 승객을 수용하는 데 초점을 맞추던 방식에서, 승객별 필요를 분석해 공간을 나누는 경험 중심으로 바뀌었다. 새 마일러 클럽과 동편 신규 프레스티지 라운지, 윙팁 지역의 프레스티지 가든 라운지 두 곳이 추가됐다.

대한항공 새 라운지는 누가 디자인했나?

호텔·레스토랑 인테리어 전문 회사 LTW 디자인웍스(LTW Designworks)가 맡았다. 한옥이 여러 공간으로 나뉘는 구성에서 출발해, 인천의 정체성을 담되 지나치게 전통적이지 않은 '내 집 같은' 공간을 목표로 했다. 조명은 Nipek, 예술 작품은 D'Art가 참여했다.

대한항공 라운지에서 달라진 편의 기능은 무엇인가?

직원이 탑승권을 스캔해 줄 때까지 기다리던 불편을 없애기 위해 자동 출입 게이트를 설치했고, 짐을 둘 곳을 찾기 어려운 불편을 덜도록 내부를 설계했다. 화면에는 '탑승권의 QR코드를 스캔해 주십시오' 안내가 나온다.

라운지 설계에서 조명과 예술은 어떤 역할을 하나?

영상은 조명을 공간에서 가장 중요한 요소로 꼽는다. 조명이 평범하면 아무리 아름다운 디자인도 살지 않기 때문에, 빛으로 어두운 공간을 아늑하게 만드는 데 집중했다. 공간을 완성하는 마지막 장식으로서 예술 작품은 D'Art the Specialist Art Company가 제안했다.

인사이더 스토리 라운지 편은 누가 만들었나?

그레잇마인즈(greatminds)가 다큐멘터리 기획·제작, 해외 촬영, 포스트프로덕션을 맡았다. 연출 김윤섭, 작가 전혜진, 촬영은 인천·홍콩·싱가포르에서 진행했다.

    That means analyzing different passenger needs

    Rather than being an airline that simply sells tickets

    our goal was to become the first choice

  19. 컨센서스가 사내에 있었고,

    That became the consensus inside the company,

  20. 그 출발점이 모든 서비스 프로덕트의 고급화였어요.

    and it all began with elevating our services.

  21. LTW는 호텔, 레스토랑 인테리어 전문회사였거든요.

    LTW Designworks specializes in hotels and restaurants.

    그래서 많은 걱정을 했어요.

    So we did have some concerns at first.

    왜냐하면 호텔이나 레스토랑이 아니고,

    Because a lounge is not the same.

    라운지에 따라서 특성들이 있지 않습니까?

    It has very specific needs.

    샤워실을 운영해야 한다든가

    or need facilities like showers.

    그런 부분들을 걱정했는데

    Those were our initial concerns.

    호스피탈리티 디자인을 해온 저희가

    Coming from hospitality design,

    공항 라운지를 맡게 된 건 새로운 도전이었어요.

    to do something like an airport lounge was a challenge.

    기존 라운지를 봤을 때

    Having seen their current lounge,

    기능적이고 실용적이지만

    it is very practical and functional,

    그다음 단계의 깊이가 부족했죠.

    but it lacks that sort of next layer.

    그래서 이번 프로젝트는

    We thought that this is a chance

    기존의 틀을 깨고

    to do something out of the box

  34. 색다른 변화를 줄 수 있다고 생각했습니다.

    and to bring a new life to this project.

  35. 여행을 하고 나면 정말 피곤하잖아요.

    You travel a lot and then you're tired.

  36. 그럴때 사람들은 편안한 공간,

    And then you want to go somewhere

  37. 익숙한 공간을 찾게 됩니다.

    you feel like you can relate with.

  38. 그래서 '머무는 동안 내 집처럼 편안한 공간'이라는

    That's why this "home away from home,"

  39. 대한항공이 요구한 건 하나였어요.

    The only thing that they told us

  40. 인천공항이 지닌 고유한 정체성을 담지만,

    was to bring it a sense of place

  41. 너무 전통적이지 않았으면 좋겠다는 거였죠.

    without being too traditional.

  42. 저희는 늘 한옥에서 영감을 얻었어요.

    We always took Hanok,

  43. 많은 사람들이 한옥을 디자인 모티브로 삼지만,

    although everybody used Hanok as a point of design,

  44. 저희가 주목한 건 이곳이 한국인에게 집과 같은 곳이고

    but we see it that because this is your home country

  45. 동시에 손님을 맞이하는 공간이라는 점입니다.

    and you're welcoming your guests into your home.

  46. 한옥은 여러 공간이 나뉘어 있잖아요.

    In Hanok, it's all ways broken down into spaces.

  47. 이렇게 작은 공간들을 다양하게 구성하는 데서부터

    So, that's how we start to carve the space,

  48. 디자인이 시작되었어요.

    using that as the baseline.

  49. 저희는 언제나 이용하시는 분들을 먼저 생각합니다.

    We always think about the end user,

  50. 편리함은 물론, 프라이버시까지 고려했죠.

    the convenience, and also privacy.

  51. 여유로운 공간을 드리고 싶었습니다.

    So What we try to do is give space.

  52. 모든 요소를 세심하게 선별했어요.

    Everything is very well curated and thoughtful.

  53. 무엇보다 '어수선함'을 없앴습니다.

    The other thing is mess.

  54. 본인의 탑승권을 직원이 스캔해줄 때까지

    In the past, many passengers had to wait for staff

  55. 기다리시는 경우가 많았을 겁니다.

    to scan their boarding pass.

  56. 그런 기다림을 없애기 위해

    So we introduced automated gates

  57. 오토게이트'라는 시설을 설치했습니다.

    to make the process seamless.

  58. 여행 중에는 짐이 많다 보니

    There's a lot of luggage that comes around

  59. 어디에 두어야 할지 몰라서 불편해하시는 경우가 있습니다.

    and they don't know where to put their bags.

  60. 이러한 승객분들의 불편을 덜어드릴 수 있도록

    These are additions that we thought is nice

  61. 라운지 내부를 설계했습니다.

    for the Korean Air lounges.

  62. 조명은 사실 공간에서 가장 중요한 역할을 합니다.

    Lighting actually plays the most important role

    above anything else.

  64. 아무리 아름다운 디자인을 해도

    Because if you have a beautiful design,

    and the lighting is flat, it just kills it.

    but we always need to think together.

    Those combinations make the space look more elegant, nice.

    We avoided mal king it too decorative and kept it simple.

    But within that simplicity, anyone can feel comfortable,

  92. 예술작품도 보시면서 마음의 평화도 얻을 수 있고

    and enjoy the artworks while finding a sense of peace.

    designed to stand alongside Incheon.

  113. 대한항공의 아이덴티티를 유지하기 위해서

    To carry forward Korean Air's identity,

  114. LA 공항과 JFI 공항, 인천공항 모두 다 같은 설계사로 선정을 했고,

    we chose the same design firm for LAX,JFK, and Incheon.

  115. 누구나 이제 세 개의 라운지를 다 보시고 나면

    Once you' ve experienced all three lounges,

  116. 좋아하는 라운지가 생기실 거라고 저희는 바라고 있는데요.

    we believe everyone will find their favorite.
