Context
In 2025, with the announcement of Korean Air’s new logo and livery, an update to the existing safety video became necessary. The safety video is a core branding asset that draws the attention of every passenger, as well as a high-cost production. With ties to the previous production company severed, a new production partner was needed. Rather than creating an entirely new video, the most cost-effective approach was to retain the proven framework and update only the logo, livery colors, and additional safety instructions. To keep the focus on the new branding elements, the strategy was to make discreet revisions while maintaining the overall structure of the video.
Challenge
The biggest challenge was to seamlessly integrate the new branding elements without having any source files from the original safety video. We had to accurately implement the new livery across all aircraft types in Korean Air’s fleet while maintaining visual consistency with the existing footage. To achieve this, we employed a combination of techniques including rotoscoping, 3D modeling, and generative AI. Ensuring seamless compositing quality while updating every branding detail from crew badges to cabin interiors was essential.
Solution
We closely analyzed the original video and systematically prioritized the updates. Segments that allowed partial edits were handled with rotoscoping, while all aircraft types were newly 3D-modeled and composited over the existing footage. Backgrounds without source files were recreated with generative AI to match the original quality. We also treated 3D sequences as live action for precise tracking, updating every element—from crew badges to cabin interiors—to reflect Korean Air’s post-rebranding look.

From the Team
"This project was all about achieving the best possible results under tight constraints. With no source files from the original video, we had to seamlessly layer in the new branding—pulling out every tool we had, from rotoscoping and 3D modeling to generative AI, and combining them creatively. The biggest challenge was accurately implementing the new livery across all aircraft types while keeping it consistent with the existing footage. In the end, we managed to balance cost efficiency with quality, successfully weaving the new brand identity into the safety video—making it a truly rewarding project."
