Context
Artist Cho Hoyoung is an installation artist who explores unconscious behavioral patterns and synesthetic experiences, presenting experimental works that change audience perception and behavior through the fusion of technology and art. In her 2024 solo exhibition 'Stereoscope', she aimed to present new media experiences that manipulate audience senses and behaviors through works such as 'CopyCat' which makes viewers unconsciously mimic the movements of figures on screen, 'Moving Walk' which creates the illusion of movement in stationary objects, and an expanded version of 2022 work 'A Patch of Ground.'
Challenge
We needed to develop differentiated visual languages appropriate for five works with different installation environments and interaction mechanisms. For 'CopyCat,' we needed movement patterns that stimulate the audience's unconscious mimicry psychology; for 'Moving Walk', visual illusions that blur the boundary between stillness and movement; and for 'A Patch of Ground,' a philosophical message about balance and homeostasis, each implemented in different media formats. The core challenge was creating media content that goes beyond simple video production to become a medium that actually changes audience behavior and perception.
Solution
We established Cho Hoyoung's major theme of exploring human behavior through synesthetic experiences as the central axis and established customized video strategies for each installation work. The video for 'CopyCat' was composed of repetitive and rhythmic movement patterns that stimulate the audience's mirror neurons to induce natural mimicry behavior. The 'Moving Walk' film applied editing techniques that experiment with the boundary between actual movement and visual illusion to disrupt the audience's spatial perception. We built a consistent aesthetic language so that each work functions independently while completing the integrated artistic experience of the entire exhibition.

From the Team
"Working with artist Cho Hoyoung revealed how video can transcend its role as content and become a medium that shapes how audiences think, feel, and respond. Through the process of bringing five distinct works together into one immersive experience, we gained new insights into what media-driven art can offer."
