Context
In 2020 the artist Kim Jung Gi drew a single large piece for HANMI Semiconductor, filling one wide sheet by hand. Years later HANMI wanted a brand vision film, and that drawing was still the most HANMI thing the company owned. The brief added a second condition. HANMI asked that generative AI be used in earnest rather than as a garnish, so the project set out to make the artwork, the moving image, and the music all through AI. What the film had to deliver was the future HANMI draws for itself, from the beginning of the company through advanced manufacturing to a vision that reaches space.
Challenge
The drawing could not be treated as an opening flourish. It had to stay as the ground the live action grows out of, which meant taking an existing artist's real work into photoreal form without losing the hand that made it. That is a narrow gap to walk. Lean too far into photoreal and the drawing becomes wallpaper behind a generic sci-fi reel. Stay in the drawing and the future never arrives. On top of that sat the problem generative models bring with them. Every call returns a slightly different world, so holding every scene across the chapters to one tone and manner was the part of this project that took the most care. And because the film draws a future, that tone had to stay grand and forward looking throughout.
Solution
We made the drawing the stage. The camera travels across one wide hand drawn sheet from left to right, and HANMI's beginning, its advanced production, and its space vision arrive in that single sweep. Only the present and future beats turn photoreal, so the artist's line stays legible from the first frame to the last. The pipeline ran in five steps. The 2020 hand drawing was extended and cleaned with AI, the stills were driven into motion, 3D and compositing carried the shots that generation alone could not hold, and the score and sound effects were generated as well. Tone was locked before generation rather than fixed afterwards, which is what let the whole run of scenes read as one film instead of a pile of separate experiments. The AI artist worked as a member of the crew on that same lock, not as a tool called at the end.
