Context
The second installment of the In-Flight Wine Club series was designed to explore the diversity and depth of wine culture, whereas the first Australia installment focused on connection. Champagne from France's Champagne region and Riesling from Germany's Rheingau region have both been selected as Korean Air's in-flight wines, but they come from very different winemaking philosophies and cultural backgrounds. This project required managing production across two distinct European countries with different languages, cultures, and wine traditions.
Challenge
Champagne, France and Rheingau, Germany are not only separated by significant geographical distance, but also by distinct differences in language, culture, and wine philosophy. With back-to-back shoots in both countries, capturing the unique character of each region while maintaining narrative coherence across contrasting wine cultures was the key challenge. The production team needed to establish local relationships and technical setups in multiple countries within a compressed timeframe.
Solution
During pre-production, the team selected appropriate locations and conducted thorough consultations in both regions. An equipment checklist was built to ensure immediate shooting readiness upon arrival at each location. Marc Almert was positioned as the cultural guide and interpreter for both regions, creating narrative continuity between contrasting wine philosophies. The storytelling approach balanced expert insight with immersive experiences, allowing viewers to naturally understand the depth of how different wine cultures developed while maintaining engagement across the cultural transitions.
From the Team
“Each wine told its own story, but together they reflected the diversity within a single cultural tradition. Translating that richness into an experience was deeply rewarding. I hope that resonance carries through to Korean Air passengers.”
